Gripping Stuff

It's Whiteboard Wednesday, and our first $20 voucher winner is Jarrod, who asked how much slower he would go per lap, being 5kg over the class weight. I decided to answer that question in a way that allows you to work it out for yourself, in any class, at any track...

We're setting up to deliver a whole bunch of new tech content - videos, blog posts, case studies, you name it. As part of this, we'll be bringing back Whiteboard Wednesdays! We need your help though. We need to know what you want to know...

Today is a big day for K-Racer! I have an extremely exciting announcement to make. As you’re no doubt aware, I love making technical videos, blog posts, and all kinds of content for you guys which hopefully makes your karting experience more enjoyable and more rewarding. However, as the business has been growing so much recently, I’ve really struggled to keep up with all of my responsibilities, and unfortunately I ended up spending most of my time taking orders over the phone and packing boxes.

Last week, the head honcho's at KA (I hate the new name, doesn't roll off the tongue like AKA at all!) dropped a bomb and released their "whole of sport review". It's the biggest change to hit Australian karting since... well, since long before I was involved, and possibly since before I was born! From the stories I've heard, this is the biggest thing to hit Australian karting since the venerable Yamaha KT100 engines were introduced, which I believe was some 30 years ago.

Okay, so kart setup is punctuated everywhere by non-linear relationships. This is a mathematical term (something I try to avoid including too much of in this blog!) which means that the phrase "if some is good, more is better!"... isn't true. It's a tough one to explain in writing, so I thought I'd do it with a video!

Race Line Basics - part 1

Posted in Driving By Col Fink

Today I'm going to talk about the basic handling characteristics of a kart, and the way that they affect the ideal racing line to take through a standard sort of corner. Some of this might seem a little obvious, but it's important to understand the principles as they contribute to some much more complicated decisions that we'll discuss in a future post.

Hey guys,

I had a smashing new idea - see making good videos out at the track is a LOT harder than you'd think - and when it's miserably wet and cold like it is in Melbourne right now... well, it's even less likely to happen! However, I do own a whiteboard, and I do dislike Wednesdays just as much as everyone else (you're never further from raceday than you are on a Wednesday), so I thought I would try to spice up hump day occasionally by starting a new tradition...

Do Something Different

Posted in Driving By Col Fink

I was at CIK round 3 at Pucka on the weekend helping my old mate Simo bang around in TAG Heavy. Simo had a weekend to forget, unfortunately, but a couple of his Harrington Doyle team-mates did something which struck a chord with me.

Tech Videos

Posted in K-Racer News By Col Fink

Hey everyone,

As many (many!) of you know, I've had a few issues with the videos on the site recently. As it happens, I'm filming a whole bunch of new videos now, so rather than muck around with these ones any more, I've just made them publicly available.
